I cannot resist a beautiful pair of shoes. Shoe shopping is far better fun than any other type of shopping, and I’d much rather buy shoes than clothes. Being vertically challenged, I usually opt for a shoe with a bit of a heel, except when it comes to flat pumps. I just love them and could have them in a dozen colours.
My black pumps recently needed replacement, and I happened to come across Sam Star shoes at Wild Orchid Boutique in Paarl. I fell in love immediately and have worn them day in and day out since then. In fact, I went back today for my second pair – a beautiful bronze colour. They are simply the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. They are super stylish, made of soft genuine leather and have a non slip rubber sole . I just love their ultra chic black shoe boxes and fabric storage bags that you get when you buy the shoes.
I also love the Sam Star story. Sam Star Shoes are designed by shoe designer Sam Lin. She started the company in 2010 when she turned her passion into work. They currently supply 40 stores nation wide, as well as 2 online stores – Spree and Takealot. You can also order directly off their website. Her shoes frequently feature in SA magazines and she is fast making a name for herself. Her shoe collections are limited, which gives the brand and exclusive edge.
Sam is also part of Sir Richard Branson’s social enterprise program, called the Branson Center of Entrepreneurship in Johannesburg. She has had the privilege of meeting Sir Richard twice in the past year, and has had the opportunity to present to foreign investors through the centre. She has a passion for business and has helped many SA women launch a second career by setting up home based boutiques selling her shoes and bags.
This past summer she took part in a shoe collaboration with Sharon Becker (Fashion Director : Marie Claire) and Aspasia Karras (Editor : Marie Claire). After years of hunting for the elusive, perfect summer wedge, they went straight to the drawing board and designed their own. The result : the Betty and Veronica design. Two seriously gorgeous and high wedges. Just love the gingham.
To celebrate her 5th year in business she recently launched the Anniversary Collection, which has a few pairs that need to find their way to my shoe closet! I just love the lace inset boots.
She also recently launched her bag collection – all leather, with a timeless twist.
